This year….Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted 6 more weeks of winter. We’ve had a very cold, icy and snowy winter so far…so that wasn’t a surprise. Plus, if you look at the calendar…Spring is officially 7 weeks away anyway. While I don’t “believe” in what Phil has to predict…it’s a fun time for all of the people in our area to celebrate Groundhog Day. It’s all in good fun…not truth!
If you don’t live in the area and would like to participate in the festivities you’ll want to plan at least 1 year in a advance. You won’t find large chain hotels in the area…so you’ll have to stay outside the area and drive-in to participate in all of the fun. The hotels, motels and B and B’s fill up fast…hence why we recommend booking at least 1 year in advance.
What to do right before and after the festivities? Well, within driving distance you’ll find some great ski lodges and ski trails. If there’s no snow on the ground you can go for a hike…there’s a ton of natural trails and tours in that part of Pennsylvania. Looking for family fun? Head into the Poconos for waterpark resorts and if you’re all adults…check out the Mount Airy Casino for some fun! There’s always something fun to see and do in Pennsylvania.
