Columcille Megalith Park is a privately owned park located in Bangor, Pennsylvania. While it’s privately owned…it’s open to the public from dawn to dusk. Visiting the park is FREE. We had the opportunity to visit back in the late Fall. We had never heard of the park until our visit. Heck, I didn’t know what the word Megalith meant until I looked it up online.
Megalith – is a large stone that has been used to construct a prehistoric structure or monument either alone or with other stones.
The park is located on 20 acres. All of the trails in the park are unpaved and on uneven ground. You’ll want to wear comfortable walking shoes. When walking the trails you want to stay on the trails…don’t be running through the park or climbing onto the stones which is prohibitted. You can bring along leashed dogs (friendly dogs) and you can take photos for personal use. No smoking, no drones and no loud noises are permitted.

Basically…the park is so you can enjoy peace and serenity. Some use it for prayer and reflection. It’s open to the public UNLESS they’re hosting a private event. You can always check their website for updates, driving directions and a visitor’s park map. They also list their guidelines for when you’re visiting the park.

When we visited it was late fall…the trees had already shed their foliage. The ground was wet and damp, so we had to be careful where we were walking. As their website says…you enter and use the park at your own risk. While the weather was wet and dreary…we were glad we stopped by and visited. It was incredible to see all of the stone structures aka Megaliths located throughout the park. It was the first time I had ever seen anything like that.
If you’re going to be in northern Pennsylvania aka the Pocono Mountains area….stop in and visit the Columcille Megalith Park. It was definitely worth the visit.
