The Benefits of Having Houseplants in Your Home

January 26, 2026 by Classystaff Leave a Comment

I love houseplants and have over 50 of them throughout our home. I have some that hang from the ceiling, some that sit on shelves and others that are displayed on plant stands. You don’t need to be an expert in gardening to have a few throughout your home. The secret is…to select varities that are easy-to-grow and to educate yourself on them. You’ll find thousands of different resources online to help guide you.

Some of the best benefits to having houseplants in your home are:

* Naturally filter the air.
* Naturally increase humidity in the air.
* Adds a touch of natural home decor (bringing the outside in).
* Enhance your exhisting home decor.
* Calming effect to your mood.
* Affordable home accents.

When starting out you want to buy easy-to-grow houseplants such as succulents. As you gain experience you can move on up to hanging spider plants, ivy, ferns, pothos, etc. The harder to grow plants aka tropical plants can also be added into the mix as you go along. There’s all types of different varieties out there for all different types of skill levels. Some plants will require a lot of care whereas others will need very little.

I recommend that you get some basics on-hand when you’re getting started like:

* Extra plant pots
* Houseplant soil
* Gardening gloves
* Houseplant food
* Watering can

As your plants beging to thrive and grow…they will occasionally need to be transplanted into larger pots. You can even propograte your plants to make new ones!

Growing plants in your home have many great benefits that can help to improve your health, enhance your mood and it’s a nice little hobby to keep you busy.
