I love decorating for the Christmas holiday, but I do admit…I’m not fond about taking it all down and storing it away. For some reason, it takes me longer to get things put away…than the time it takes for me to put things up. When it comes to putting things away I take the time to do it right. Every thing gets cleaned, inspected, organized and stored correctly. I want to keep everything safe and secure for the next holiday season.

Light Strands – Each light strand gets wrapped up and secured on a light strand organizer. This keeps bulbs from getting broken and the strands from getting tangled up. It makes getting them out next year quick and easy.

Extension Cords – All extension cords get wrapped up and secured using Wrap-It Storage Straps. They’re reusable and can hold bulkier and heavier items.
Christmas Ornaments – Place holiday ornaments into containers that are made specifically for storing them. This keeps them separated and secured. The Christmas Ornaments Storage Boxes that I use are light-weight and have carrying handles. This makes it easy for me to transport them back up into the attic. I sort the ornaments into categories…breakable vs. non-breakable. The special breakable ornaments get wrapped up in a piece of bubble wrap for extra security. You never want to use newspaper which can leave ink on your previous ornaments!

Christmas Wreaths – Place wreaths into special Christmas Wreath Storage Containers. I like using the light-weight canvas containers that have carrying handles vs. hard plastic containers which take up a lot of space. These type’s of containers fit nicely up onto shelves, into closets or slide them underneath a bed.
Holiday Linens – I like to change out our household linens per season and holiday. That includes kitchen towels, tablecloths, hot pads, bathroom towels, toss pillows, throw rugs, bed linens, etc. The best way to store them is in a Linens Storage Bag. These bags keep them dirt-free and help to keep the bugs out! Always wash and thoroughly dry all linens before storing them away.
Gift Wrap & Accessories – Invest in a gift wrap organizer! You can select from styles that hang or styles that you can easily slide underneath a bed. These organizers can hold rolled gift wrap, flat wrap, bows, ribbons, tags, scissors, extra tape and other gift wrapping accessories. I personally purchased two of them. One for holiday gift wrap & accessories and one for what I call “general” which holds all of the other occasions. The holiday one gets store in the attic while the general one is kept underneath a bed in a guest room.
Take the time to clean, organize and store all of your Christmas and holiday decorations the right way to help protect them. It will make putting things up and taking things down much easier in the future.
