We have a 6 year old boy named Romeo. He’s finicky about his food and just as finicky about his cat toys. When it comes to regular old catnip…he’s not impressed. The type of catnip that impresses him has to be very heavily scented…and then he’ll go wild. He’s especially fond of toys that combine catnip with Silver Vine….so that’s why I’m mentioning the cat toy below that Romeo loves to play with!

Back in December I purchased 2 packs of the Hartz Cattraction Cat Toys with Silver Vine and Catnip. They’re “plush” mice mouse shaped toys with a little jingle bell attached to them. The official name is Macaron Mice. They have them in various colors and they’re perfect for all breeds of cats….kittens, adults and seniors too!
According to Hartz….
Silver Vine is a vine that grows in the high mountainous regions of eastern Asia. It produces a natural and effective cat attractant that stimulates livelier play in more cats when compared to catnip alone. Cats respond more intensely to Silver Vine vs Catnip. The combination of the Silver Vine and Catnip is most effective, with more than 90% of cats responding.

We give our boy Romeo one of them at a time. He will play with that one over and over for about 2 weeks or so. When he starts to lose interest I know it’s time to change it out with a new one. They all lose their potency and scent over time. Some cats may be able to go longer than 2 weeks…but that seems to be the sweet spot with our boy. Once the new one comes out…he goes crazy for it all over again.
If you have a picky cat that doesn’t get excited for catnip toys…I highly recommend that you give the Hartz Cattraction Macaron Mice a try…the ones with the combination Silver Vine and Catnip. Romeo gives them a big 4 paws up!
