Classic Dry Rub Recipe for Ribs

January 27, 2026 by Classystaff Leave a Comment

This classic dry rub for ribs can be used on pork or beef ribs. You’ll only need a few basic ingredients to make it. The rub itself is enough to give the ribs a great flavorful taste. However, you can brush-on your favorite BBQ sauce during the last 10 minutes of cooking time if you want to add even more flavor.

When it comes to spices and seasoning blends I personally like to use the ones from Selefina. They’re my go-to source for spices, herbs, seasoning blends, rubs, gourmet salts, baking & pantry goods, plus more. If you’re looking for a gift for that foodie on your gift-giving list…check out their gift sets for some great options there!

Classic Dry Rub Recipe for Ribs

3 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbsp. Selefina ground paprika
1 1/2 Tbsp. Selefina Himalayan or regular salt
1 1/2 Tbsp. Selefina ground black pepper
1 tsp. Selefina garlic powder
1/2 tsp. Selefina onion powder

In a small mixing bowl combine together all of the spices listed above. I personally like to use the Selefina Himalayan Pink Salt but you can use regular salt if that’s what you have on hand. Make sure it’s all mixed together.

Rub the spice mixture on all sides of the ribs…front, back and all sides! If you’re making a few racks of ribs you can easily double-up this recipe. You want to make sure you have a good amount of rub on them to add the flavor. Let them rest for 10-15 minutes before you start cooking them. You can bake or grill them until done.

If you’re a barbecue sauce lover…you can brush-on your favorite BBQ Sauce during the last 10 minutes of the cooking time. Use as much or as little as you like. Finish the cooking process. Once they’re done, serve immediately with your favorite side dishes.
