Kelly’s Homemade Applesauce Cake Recipe

December 23, 2025 by Classystaff

An applesauce cake is flavorful and moist. It’s not a dry and crumbly style of a cake. It’s great served as a dessert, with your morning breakfast beverage or as a snack. It’s made with basic ingredients that you most likely already have on hand. This recipe is from my friend Kelly who baked it in a 9×13″ glass baking dish. You can spray it with non-stick spray to prevent sticking.

* Complimentary spices received.

When it comes to spices and spice blends my #1 go-to source is Selefina. If you have never tried their products I highly recommend them. You can purchase sample sizes or full-sizes…depending on what you need. They source their spices from all around the world obtaining the best quality available. Shop for classic spices, spice blends, gourment salts, rubs and baking products.

Homemade Applesauce Cake Recipe

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. Selefina Ground Cinnamon
1 tsp. Selefina Ground Ginger
1/4 tsp. Selefina Ground Nutmeg
1/4 tsp. Selefina Ground Allspice

Sift all of the above ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs

Beat the 3 ingredients above together until creamy. Then beat in the following 3 ingredients until everything is combined.

2 cups unsweetened applesauce
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Once you have the sugar and applesauce mixtures combined you want to incorporate that mixture into the first bowl that contains the flour. Beat everything together until combined.

Pour the batter into a prepared baking dish (see note above) and place into a preheated 350 degrees F. oven. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the center of the cake is done. Remove and let cool on a wire rack.

You can frost this cake with whatever flavor of icing that you like. She likes to use cream cheese frosting but buttercream or vanilla would work too! Thank you Kelly for sharing your recipe with us!
