Do you wash your fresh grapes as soon as you get them home from the farmer’s market or grocery store? If so, you’re doing it all wrong! Washing grapes speeds up the ripening process. Grapes shoud never be washed until your ready to use them…whether eating them now or using them in a recipe.

You don’t need to buy produce wash, do baking soda and vinegar soaks…and all of that jazz. According to real foodie experts…all you need to do is rinse them under cold running water for a minute or two in your colander. No soaking required. Just rinse them with water to remove all dirt and debris. Then use a paper towel or clean cotton towel to blot-off the water.
When it comes to storing them…store them in the refrigerator’s crisper drawer (unwashed). When you’re ready to consume them, that’s when you’ll take them out of the drawer and wash them. Store them in their original container or a special container that’s made specifically for fresh produce. You want to allow air-flow to go in and out of the container. They need to be dry, so don’t toss them into the crisper drawer wet!
Grapes can be stored in the freezer for longer preservation too! I will often freeze grapes until I’m ready to make a batch of homemade jam.
