Building a New Wardrobe with Thrifted Clothing

October 27, 2025 by Classystaff

Frugal Finds and Hot DealsWhen you think of shopping at a thrift store I’m sure that the majority of you think used or gently-used clothing and home decor items. Right? Well, I’m here to tell you that you’re WRONG. We have seven thrift stores in my city and several of them offer brand new with original retail price tags items at a HUGE discount! A lot of the retail stores around here will donate customer returns or items they couldn’t sell to the thrift stores.

A month ago I went shopping at one of my favorite thrift stores called Community Aid. It’s a huge store that sells seasonal items, kitchen stuff, clothing for the entire family, furniture, toys, tools, small appliances, collectibles and all sorts of different things. On this particular trip I was looking for some clothing items to add to my fall and winter wardrobe. Well, I scored big time! Almost everything I purchased was brand new…except for 2 items which looked never used/worn.

Let’s talk prices. I paid $1.69 to $6.99 per clothing item. All items were from brands that I was familiar with it. For example: Land’s Endl, Belle by Kim Gravel, Denim & Co., Talbots, etc. I inspected each item closely and all were in perfect condition. No stains, pulls, rips, flaws, etc. of any kind. NONE. All items are in-season…perfect for Fall and Winter.

Once I got home I removed all of the price tags and laundered them right away. All washed and dried…now hanging up in my closet and part of the new wardrobe that I’m currently building. Hey….I lost 16 lbs so I deserve it!

If you’re looking to build a wardrobe on a budge…don’t forget to visit the thrift stores in your local area. Yes, some will be junky and dirty (I avoid those) but go shopping at the better ones that you can find! The prices are more than the .25 and .50 cents you’ll find at a Yard Sale but I also feel that the quality is better. Meaning…I can find brand names that are brand new or like-new condition for bargain prices!
