Germs and bacteria are everywhere including doctor offices. Last week I was in my doctor’s office sitting in the waiting room for about an hour. Yes, he was running behind again. Anyway, as I sat there I watched at least a dozen people walking around the waiting room touching things. They were looking at magazines, collecting pamphlets and other things placed on the tables and chairs. On top of that, several had their cellphones and tablets out using those as their source of entertainment as they waited. Two other people got up and changed the channel on the TV in the waiting room.

Why do I bring all of this up? Well…you just exposed yourself to a lot of different germs! Everything you touched in that office most likely had germs on it. Sure…they’re cleaned often…but that doesn’t kill all of the germs!
When visiting the doctor’s office, a medical clinic, a hospital, pharmacy, rehab center, etc. you really need to limit the amount of touching that you do. Yes, you do have to touch things like the door handle, sign a few documents, the payment counter or whatever…but really limit the amount of items that you’re touching!!! In other words…try to keep your hands to yourself.
Another thing that you should do…leave your handbag or purse in the car. Don’t take it into the facility along with you. Only take in the absolute necessary things that you need. Example: photo ID, payment and perhaps your cellphone. Leave everything else out in the car. If you need to take items in with you…consider placing them in a plastic zipper-closure bag.
As soon as you leave a medical facility you should be disinfecting your hands with a hand sanitizer. If you have sanitizing wipes in your car (highly recommend) wipe down items that you took into the office along with you. It’s not a good idea to transport germs from the medical office, into your vehicle and then into your home.
While all of this may sound silly to some…it can really save you and your family the heartache of catching something from merely visiting the doctor’s office or another type of medical facility. Think it doesn’t happen? Think again! Medical professionals will tell you that it happens every day!
