Fire extinguishers…every home should have them. Not one, not two, but multiple fire extinguishers placed throughout the home. You don’t need to buy big clunky-sized ones, you can buy light-weight and small ones at an affordable price. We have 6 in our home.

Every year my husband inspects each fire extinguisher to make sure it’s still within date. Yes folks, they do expire over time. Check those dates!!! Second, he gives the family a new lesson on where each fire extinguisher is located and how we should use them. This information needs to be drilled into the head of each family member who lives in the home!!!
There are different types of fire extinguishers available so make sure you have the correct one for your needs. For example…we have 2 different ones located in our kitchen. Both are small and compact in size. One is for grease fires and one is for a regular fire. Read the labels and make sure you have the proper type for the area that you’re housing it in.
Location, location, location! We have 2 located in our kitchen as I previously stated. We then have one underneath each bed in the bedrooms and a very large fire extinguisher is located at the base of the stairs in our basement. Make sure that they’re accessible and easy to get to! You don’t want to be digging around in a closet or in a storage bin looking for one when it’s needed.
If you haven’t updated your fire extinguisers recently it’s time to do so! Make sure they’re still within their useage date (haven’t expired) and please…make sure you know how to use one! Read those instructions several times!!! You can find really affordable Fire Extinguishers on Amazon for a great price. While you’re at it…pick up one for each of your vehicles too!
