Looking for an easy beach and coastal themed craft project to make this weekend? If so, check out this pretty lighthouse that was decoupaged onto a large scallop shell seashell. You can make several of them in just one weekend with only a few different art and craft supplies needed. A great beginner’s project or for someone who doesn’t have artistic painting skills like me!
For the large scallop shells…I purchased a pack of large scallop baking shells from Amazon and used those! If you live near a beach….you could certainly collect them, wash & clean them…then use them for this art and crafts project.

Large 4″ Scallop Shells
Decoupage Clear Sealer, Glossy Finish
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush
Lighthouse or Beach Themed Paper Napkin
Gold Metallic Paint Marker
Water Dish and Paper Towels
Scissors
Base coat the scallop shells with white acrylic craft paint. You only need one light coat of paint. This will help the napkin to adhere better to the seashell and helps to cover up any imperfections in the seashell. Let dry.
Use scissors to cut out your desired motif from the paper napkin. I used a napkin that had blue lighthouses, sea gulls, sail boats, seashells, etc. printed on it. I cut out just the lighthouse and two sea gulls which fit perfectly onto the seashell. The napkins were 3-ply napkins…so remove the other 2 layers (plys) so that you are ONLY using the printed layer. Amazon has some beautiful Beach Lighthouse Paper Napkins you can choose from.
Brush a coat of Clear Mod Podge Sealer onto the scallop seashell. Apply the cut-out design pieces on top. Again, a lighthouse and two seagulls. Brush another coat of Clear Mod Podge Sealer on top. You should be covering the entire seashell with the Mod Podge. Let dry until it’s no longer tacky.
Use a Gold Metallic Paint Marker to trim the outer edges going around the seashell. This will give it a nice finished look. Let dry. Apply one more “light” coat of Mod Podge Clear Sealer on top. Let dry overnight.

I love this idea. So pretty and so doable with napkin decoupage trick! My sister used to paint positive words on shells and do the gold outline like you did. I love shell crafts.
