Two months ago we started the remodeling project in our laundry room. It’s a small room that houses our washer, dryer, 3 small shelves and there’s a small closet. Inside that closet I like to keep my laundry and cleaning supplies. This entire laundry room is the size of a small guest bathroom, it’s not very big!

We started with the closet first. We took everything out. My husband took down the shelves and moved them closer together. He then cut down a board and added a 4th shelf to give us more storage room. After that was done…he painted the entire closet giving it a fresh coat of paint. Once the paint was dry…I lined the shelves to make them easier to clean should something get spilled on them.

The door knobs or door pulls were a plain silver-tone knob. Not very attractive. Just something standard I guess. Anyway, I went over to Amazon and purchased two cast-iron cabinet knobs in the shape of a starfish. They were white-washed. We put them on the doors but they totally blended in with the light gray color of the door. Ugh. I didn’t like that at all. Yes…they’re cabinet knobs but work great for these type’s of closet doors.

I got out my craft paint and painted the knobs with a light seaglass color. Waited for the paint to thoroughly dry. I then took a sanding block over the top to chip-up the paint color a little bit. I took them outside and sprayed them with 2 coats of a Clear Acrylic Sealer to protect the paint. Left them dry overnight. When spraying them…following the directions printed on the can to get the best results.
Next day….my husband installed them onto the doors. Wow! I’m so glad that I painted them…the color really pops! You can definitely tell that they’re starfish now. I think they look fabulous! Modern and updated. I’ll be adding a throw rug and some small accessories in the room to help pull that seaglass color together. Stay tuned for more updates!
