Bumble Bees, Birds and Flowers Painted Seashell Designs

September 20, 2025 by Classystaff

These bumble bees, birds and flowers hand-painted seashells would make GREAT garden yard art, front porch art or place them in your backyard around the swimming pool. They make great table decor during backyard barbecues too! The designs are easy-to-replicate and you can whip up several of them in just one weekend.

Wash all seashells with warm soapy water to remove dirt, sand, debris and fishy odors. I like to use Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It does a GREAT job at removing all of the gunk! Let the shells air dry overnight.

Base coat the shells with 1-2 light coats of white acrylic craft paint. Allow 30-45 minutes of drying time between coats. Base coating them will help ALL of the colors applied on top to POP! Once the paint has dried use a pencil to sketch out your desired design. Keep it simple!!!

I used a pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers to do all of the design work. These paint markers are fantastic! Require no priming, no clogged tips, no drippy messes, no foul paint odors and guess what? The paint dries fairly fast! Compared to other acrylic paint marker brands…BETEM is my favorite. Affordable too!

Once all of the paint has dried you need to seal the design work. Brush on 1-2 light coats of Mod Podge Clear Sealer with a glossy finish over-the-top of each seashell. It goes on white but will dry crystal clear. I like to apply it using a foam paint brush. Let the shells dry overnight.

You can find 300+ FREE painted seashell projects right here on the TCC blog.
