5 Reasons Why Meditation is Easier Outdoors

September 11, 2025 by Sam H.

You may have heard that meditation is good for you. There’s plenty of clinical evidence to support this assertion. However, you might not feel certain about where the best place is to meditate.

Livewell Center Park City is an option if you would like to meditate indoors and want a system in place that supports this activity. However, there are also many individuals who swear by meditating outside.

Why do some consider outdoor meditation to be easier? We’ll explore five viable reasons right now.

Tapping Into Nature is Part of What You’re Trying to Do

One reason why many people say they like meditating outdoors is because they want to try and tap into the natural world when they meditate. They want to be able to feel the breeze blowing past, hear the birdsong, and to hear water running from a nearby stream or brook.

All of this is conducive to the kind of mindset you’re trying to achieve when you meditate. If you visit a public park or have a backyard where you can’t hear any noise from traffic or neighbors, that might be ideal.

Meditating Indoors Can Feel Restrictive

If you meditate indoors, there are situations where that might be okay, but just as often, you will feel confined. When you’re indoors, you’re inside a human-made construct. That is the antithesis of meditation.

Getting outside of something that humans built and back into the natural world should put you in a tranquil state. Again, that is often a part of what you’re trying to tap into, so it stands to reason that heading outside will put you in the proper head space for some productive meditative exercises.

If You Meditate Indoors, You Might Be Easily Distracted

There’s also the fact that if you meditate indoors, there’s often a lot there that can distract you. Maybe you told your kids that you don’t want to be disturbed, but they still come knocking on your door demanding a sandwich. Perhaps your phone rings or buzzes, wrecking the mindset you’re trying to create.

Getting out in nature means you’re purposefully disconnecting. It’s one of the main reasons why people meditate, and you likely can’t achieve the correct mental attitude indoors.

Outdoor Meditation Makes It Easier to Leave Yourself

Often, when you meditate, you will try to both be aware of your body and also leave it. You want to be a part of the cosmic energy of which the world and universe are composed.

If you’re outdoors, you can often sense the planetary bodies around you much better. You will be able to ascend to a higher plain of consciousness, at least for a while. That same effect is difficult to duplicate in a house or apartment.

You Can Feel the Natural World of Which You Are a Part

Finally, it’s helpful to meditate outside because you can be more aware that you are organic matter. You can better accept your only fragility and mortality, but not in a frightening way.
