3″ to 4″ diameter Sand Dollars
Paper Napkins
Mod Podge Clear Sealer, Glossy Finish
Paint Brush
White Acrylic Craft Paint
Scissors
You’ll want to base coat the sand dollars with a light coat of white acrylic craft paint. By basecoating you’ll cover-up any imperfections in the sand dollar and the base coat of acrylic craft paint will help the paper napkin adhere better. Let dry.
I purchased a pack of 3-ply paper napkins from Amazon that had a lighthouse, sail boat, seashells, sea gulls, etc. design printed on them. Using scissors, cut out the design elements you wish to use on the sand dollar. You need to remove all of the extra-plys of paper…only use the one ply that is printed on. In other words, separate the layers of the paper napkin.
Brush a light coat of Clear Mod Podge Sealer on top of the sand dollar. Gently apply the paper napkin motif on top. Use your fingers to gently rub out any wrinkles. Make sure it’s lying flat with no air bubbles or wrinkles underneath it. Once it’s flat…brush another light coat of Clear Mod Podge Sealer over the the top. Let dry for a few hours or until it’s no longer tacky.
Now…you can display as-is or fancy them up by applying a gold metallic paint trim around the edge of the sand dollar or by attaching a hanging loop at the top you can turn them into Christmas holiday ornaments. I’ve also glued commercial-grade magnets onto the back and used them as refrigerator magnets in my kitchen. You can use them all sorts of different ways.
