I take a lot of prescribed medication. Two of the medications that I take cause constipation. I can stuff all kinds of fiber, fruit and other things into my body and those things won’t help me to go to the bathroom. Nope, not at all. I’ve tried just taking stool softeners and they don’t work either. I needed something stronger that would help me go to the bathroom and NOT get clogged up.
Six months ago I had a doctor recommend a regular bedtime routine of taking 2 stool softeners with a stimulant laxative. By taking them at bedtime…this would get me on a routine of going first thing in the morning before I start my day. By taking them every night at bedtime…that would keep me from getting clogged up. Let’s face it…constipation causes stomach pain and causes horrible pain when trying to pass the hard stool. I wanted to avoid it all!
It has been six months of following his recommended protocol and guess what? I’ve only been constipated once over the 6 months where I had to use an enema to go to the bathroom. It was my fault because I had fallen asleep and forgot to take the pills! Sigh.
When I first started taking the pills I was using Peri-Colace which is an OTC medication. My local pharmacy quit carrying it. They only had their generic replace it. I took that for about 5 weeks and then that pharmacy went out of business. They cost a LOT LESS than the name brand and work just as well if not better.
