Are you properly storing your fresh cherries to keep them fresher, longer? Not sure if you’re doing it right? Well, today we’re going to give you a few tips to follow.
When purchasing always buy the freshest ones first. If any appear to be mushy, moldy or damage…avoid buying them! Look for nicely colored firm cherries that are free from blemishes.

Once home…go through them one-by-one removing any that have mold or that have cracked open. Discard them or place in your composting bin. Remove any leaves or debris…but don’t wash them! Water and washing will speed up the ripening process.
Line a refrigerator container with 1-2 paper towels. Place the unwashed cherries on top. If you can place them in a single layer…that’s even better. If pouring them on top of one another…be gentle about it to NOT bruise the fruit. Place another paper towel on top. The paper towels will absorb any moisture. Place the container into the refrigerator.
I personally use these Fresh Produce Refrigerator Containers that I purchased from Amazon last year and love them! I use them for strawberries, blueberries, grapes, cherries, raspberries, mulberries, tomatoes, peppers, etc. They’re fantastic at helping to keep your produce fresher for a longer period of time. Plus, you can wash them in the dishwasher as needed.
If you plan on eating the cherries right away…you can rinse them in a colander using cool running water. Shake off excess water. Line a plate with 2-3 paper towels and place the washed cherries on top. You can keep these at room temperature if you plan on eating them that day or using them in your favorite recipe.
Cherries that have been refrigerated will last several days LONGER than ones that are kept out at room temperature.
