I’m a big fan of having a variety of houseplants in my home. At this time, I would estimate that I have a minimum of 30 spread throughout our house. I grow all kinds of things like ferns, spider plants, palms, aloe vera, wandering jew and of course…the burro tail.

The Burro Tail or Donkey Tail is an easy-to-grow succulent that doesn’t require a lot of care. I first started growing them about 3 years ago from a starter plant that a friend had given to me. After letting it acclimate to my home for a month…I transplanted it into a larger pot and it took off! Succulents are some of the easiest things to grow when it comes to houseplants.
Over the past 3 years I’ve grown a lot of them! They’re easy to propogate so I’m always giving starters to my friends. You just let the fallen little stems sit out for 2-3 days to allow the end to callus. Then stick that end into a pot of dirt. I like to use potting soil that is made specifically for succulents and catus. Give it a little bit of water and sit the pot in a sunny window. They like sun but not direct sun beating on them for 8 hours a day. I like to sit the pots on a shelf so that the plant can hang down comfortably as it grows.
When it comes to watering the Burro Tail I like to give it a little bit of water every 7-14 days. I don’t over-saturate them…just enough water to dampen the dirt. You never want to flood any type of houseplant with water. Make sure you have them in a good pot that allows water to drain. These are great houseplants for those who like to travel or those who aren’t super attentative to a plant’s watering needs.
Twice a year I like to add-in a Miracle-Gro Plant Food Spike into every houseplant pot. I feel this extra “food” helps all of my plants grow and helps to keep them healthy. Plus, they’re affordable unlike some of the other plant foods out in the retail marketplace.
Other than that…the Donkey Tail aka Burro Tail is a great plant to grow inside your home. Especially if you don’t have a green thumb!
