Last month we were down in Lancaster County on a day trip. We spent the afternoon visiting some of the great antique stores, farmer’s markets and craft shops that are strewn throughout the county. We like to do down a few times during the off-season time of the year. Spring and Fall are beautiful times to visit Lancaster county.
Every time we’re down there we see the Amish horse and buggy’s out on the roads. You do need to drive carefully when you’re around them. With that said, they don’t pose any type of hazard while you’re there. Matter of fact, I enjoy seeing them. It’s always interesting how the Amish control those horses and get them to go exactly where they need to go and as fast or slow as they’re needed. The horses are used to being around vehicles and out on the road.
The horse drawn buggies or carriages are how the Amish get from point A to point B. They don’t drive cars in the old order Amish community. Often times when we’re on the back roads we’ll see Amish children riding bicycles or scooters to get from one area to the next. It’s a very common thing to see.
Anyway, here’s a picture of an Amish horse and buggy that we seen while we were there. If you come across an Amish Horse and Buggy…slow down and be respectful. They have every right to be on the road too. Way too often I see cars passing them at a high rate of speed….honking their horns at them because they go much slower than a vehicle or yelling things at them. BE RESPECTFUL…NO ONE OWNS the Road!
