We decided to go on an evening beach walk and saw all kinds of surprising things. Yes…surprising! Typically when we go on a beach walk we’re just taking a walk to relax or to collect seashells. Well, on this particular walk we saw a few unexpected things!
1. We saw a deceased shark lying up on the beach. He had been dead for about an hour according to a few onlookers who were nearby. Typically we don’t see dead sharks lying around on a beach.
2. A few yards away we saw a dead stingray lying on the beach. It was approximately 2 foot in size. Again, rarely do you see them washed up onto a beach.
3. We saw at least 40 stranded horseshoe crabs. Those that were still alive we helped them get back out into the water. It was low-tide and many of them had gotten stranded.
4. We found and collected 5 empty large whelk shells during our walk. We had found 3 other ones but they still had an inhabitant so we tossed those back into the water.
All of this is in a 45 minute walk on a beach at the Jersey Shore.
