Tired of artificial food coloring that is loaded with preservatives and other not-so-good for us ingredients? If so, it’s time to switch over to natural plant-based food coloring! They’ve been out for several years but were hard to find (our local stores didn’t carry any until recently). With that said, more and more grocery stores along with Amazon are now carrying plant-based food coloring.

I use food coloring when I make homemade frosting, icing, popsicles, ice cream, various canning recipes, etc. There are times that you need a good food coloring sitting in your pantry. Plant-based is definitely the way to go. You use them the same way as traditional ones. In some cases you may find that the color is more on the lighter side…that’s okay, just add more or enjoy the pastel colors. Some brands have vivid and bright colors too.
My grandchildren will often color hard-boiled eggs…even when Easter is over. It’s a good rainy day project for them to do (keeps them busy) and they’re more apt to eat the eggs that they’ve created. We’re big on protein in our family. Don’t buy those terrible Easter Egg Dying Kits at the store!!!
It’s time for everyone to switch over (if you haven’t already) to Plant-Based Food Coloring. Keep a set in your pantry so that you have them on hand when needed.
