These hand painted red, white and blue Patriotic designed seashells make the perfect little home decor accents during all of those holidays throughout the summer. Think Memorial Day, July 4th, Veteran’s Day and President’s Day. They’re great for anyone who loves showing off their pride in the U.S.A. and they’re super easy to make!

All of these designs were painted onto 4″ and 5″ wide clam shells seashells collected from the beach. Wash them in warm, soapy water and rinse clean. Lay them out to air dry overnight.
I recommend that you base coat all of the seashells with white paint. You can use white spray paint or brush-on 1-2 coats of white acrylic paint with a paint brush. By base coating the shells…it allows all of the color to POP once applied on top. You’ll want to refer to the photograph to copy the designs or use the designs to inspire your own.
The gold metallic accents that you see on a few of the shells was purchased at Dollar Tree in the crafts section of the store. They’re rub-on transfers (decals) that apply easily onto the seashells. They’re not adhesive stickers! To keep the design work simple I elected to use a pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers. They don’t require priming, no clogged tips, no drippy messes and no foul paint odors. Plus, they’re affordable! You can purchase them from Amazon. If you’re artistic…you can certainly paint-on the designs using acrylic craft paint and a paint brush.
Let all of the painted shells dry for at least 8 hours to allow alll of the paint to cure. The next day you want to seal the painted design by spraying on 1-2 light coats of a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or brush on 1-2 light coats of Mod Podge Clear Glossy Sealer. I elected to use Mod Podge. It goes on white but dries crystal clear. Don’t skip on sealing them…it’s important to protect the paint from chips, cracks and color-fading!
