Hand Painted Summer Themed Clam Shell Seashell Designs
It’s time to get busy decorating for the summer season! Last week I started working on some new summer themed designs painted onto large clam shells seashells. These will be displayed on my front porch, back deck and around our pool area to set the mood for summer! They’re also great table decorations if you’re hosting a pool party or backyard barbecue.

I collected 4″ and 5″ wide clam shells from the beach. Washed them in Dawn Liquid Dishwashing Soap. Dawn does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and air dry overnight.
You need to base coat the seashells with 1-2 coats of white acrylic paint. You can brush it on with a paint brush or purchase a can of white spray paint. The choice is yours. Let them thoroughly dry.
Designs Featured: Sunrise Over the Ocean, A Camper in a Campsite, and Summer Vibes Popsicles. Fun!!!
Use a pencil to draw the designs onto the shells. I just free-handed it, no pattern or template was used. You can do simple designs or get really elaborate with them. I personally like the simple and clean look. To keep the design work easy…I used a pack of BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers to color it in. These paint markers are fantastic! NO priming, no leaking, no clogged tips and the paint dries fast. Each one has a fine tip and a medium tip (they’re dual tips) and I love working with them. Let dry.
Once you’re done painting the designs you need to seal the paint. Don’t skip this step! Sealing the paint protects it from chips, cracks, crazing and color fading. You can spray-on a Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer or brush-on Mod Podge Clear Sealer with a Glossy Finish. If you’re going to display them outside, I recommend two good coats. Let dry 24-48 hours before you place them outside to allow everything to cure.
