Over the past 10 days or so we’ve been watching 2 adult Robins (a male and a female) take turns sitting on a nest with four eggs. These birds built the nest on our back porch…right above our garbage cans! Over the past week they were very tolerant to us being out on the back porch to do the things that we do. They didn’t bother us and we weren’t bothering them.
Two days ago they started dive bombing us every time we stepped out onto the back porch. EVERY TIME. As soon as they would hear the back door open one of them was heading towards us. Wow…did their personality and mood change. Well, I had a suspicion that the eggs started hatching and I was right! I had my wife lure them out into the yard by tossing bird seed.
While they were out gobbling up the bird seed and trying to chase my wife off…I climbed up to see what was inside the nest. Yup…two of the four eggs had hatched. Now that there’s babies up there in the nest the two parents have become grumpy and dive bomb us every time we go outside. The photograph in this post shows them less than 24 hours old. There’s no way I’m going near that nest to see if the other two eggs hatched….at least for now!
