HUNGRY Baby Birds – Robins

May 12, 2025 by Classystaff

Robin's Eggs in Bird's NestSpring…it’s a marvelous time of the year! Every morning I enjoy waking up to the sound of the birds singing. I love feeling the sunshine and warmth hit my skin. I absolutely love being outside and breathing in the fresh air. Spring…it’s one of my favorite seasons of the year.

Once the temperatures change I like to move the majority of my houseplants outside. I have 40 or so that sit on my front porch or back desk. I mix-in annual flowers that I pick up from the local nursery to add color and pizzazz. I like our outdoor spaces to feel inviting and relaxing…for us and for those who visit our home.

Hungry Baby Birds

Well this year…I have 3 different birds (2 house finches and a robin) who have made nests on my front porch. This one VERY LARGE robin made a huge nest in my one houseplant. She laid 3 beautiful eggs but only 2 of them hatched. We’ve been watching Mom leave the nest several times a day to gather food and bring it back for the babies. When Mom is gone…they’re quite vocal about it. Obviously, they want food!

The second photo in this post is of the baby Robins when they were approximately 9-10 days old. You can see that their feathers are starting to come in nicely and their eyes are open. Their mouths are wide-open because Mom is sitting above them on my porch railing with a big, fat worm hanging out of her mouth. Dinner…it’s on the way!

As you can see…they totally destroyed my Aloe Vera plant which used to be vibrant and healthy inside that pot. Oh well. After they fledge and leave the nest the entire pot will be going into the garbage. It served as their temporary home…for a little while.
