Best Place to Go Shelling in Wildwood

Best Place to Go Shelling in WildwoodLove to collect seashells? Enjoy going shelling? Are you going to be visiting Wildwood on vacation? If so, you’ll want to visit one of the best places to go shelling on the Wildwood island. We always find a decent amount of seashells when we’re there.

Best Times to Go Shelling:

You want to go after a storm or rough seas. Go during the first low-tide after the storm. Look along the high tide water line and among any debris (sea grass) that you see lying on the beach. You can wade through tide pools too!

Ethical Shelling:

You never want to take any type of seashell that is inhabited! If you find one…place it back into the water. No seashell is worth killing an animal. Next…if you find vacant snail shells, whelk shells, etc. please put them back even though they’re vacant! Why? Because other animals look for those shells and move into them to make a home!!! Finally, you only need a few seashells! You don’t need bags and bags full of shells. Be a responsible sheller.

Best Place for Shelling:

The best place (in our opinion) on the Wildwood island to go shelling is at Hereford Inlet. You’ll need to park and walk across the North Wildwood Seawall to get onto the beach. Go during low tide! If you’re using seashells in crafts or to decorate…please only take the clam shells, oyster shells, scallops, etc. Leave the other type’s (see above) there for other animals to make them into their homes. Don’t take more than you need!
