Shopping at the Washington Street Mall in Cape May

March 13, 2025 by Classystaff

The Washington Street Mall is an outdoor (strip style) mall with a cobblestone walkway. You walk outside from store to store. All of the businesses and shops are locally-owned. You won’t find big chain retail stores here which is really nice.

When visiting you’ll find clothing boutiques, a store selling pet items (mostly for dogs), coffee shops, kitchen stores, toy stores, ice cream parlours, restaurants, pubs, candle shops, jewelry boutiques, baby clothing stores, a Christmas store that sells holiday items year-round, tourist-style gift shops, and a lot more.

Within walking distance you’ll find Rotary Park where you can take a stroll, catch some local entertainment (if anything is scheduled) and just sit on a park bench to relax & people watch. Also within walking distance is the ACME grocery store, the Cape May Playhouse and other off-shoot businesses that sit around the perimeter of the Washington Street Mall in Cape May.

Let’s talk about parking. It’s paid parking. You’ll need to download an app onto your phone. It’s easy to use and hook up your payment method. That’s how you’ll pay for parking. Other than that…you can park several blocks away on a side street (for free) if you can find an open parking spot.

Every time we’re down at the Jersey Shore (Wildwood, Stone Harbor or Cape May) we stop in for some fun shopping at the Washington Street Mall. If you’re looking for a traditional shopping mall you’ll have to head up to Rio Grande (mainland across from Wildwood) for the closest traditional shopping mall with name brand stores.
