Hand Painted St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Design Clam Shells Seashells
St. Patrick’s Day is just a few days away. You still have time to make these beautiful hand painted St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Design seashells. The designs were painted onto 4″ to 5″ wide clam shells collected from the beach. You don’t need any patterns or templates to make them. Great for the beginner artist or crafter!

Wash the clam shells in warm water containing Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Let them soak for 15 minutes. Rinse with clean water and let dry overnight. We recommend using Dawn because it does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors.
Paint the background in your desired colors. You can apply one or multiple colors. Since these are St. Patty Day seashells we used various shades of green. One was done with acrylic paint that has a matte finish and one was done with acrylic paint that has a metallic finish. You’ll need 2 coats of paint with 45 minutes of drying time between coats.
The Shake Your Shamrocks design is really easy to do! Just use a white acrylic paint marker to write out the words. Let them dry. Then use a fine tip black acrylic paint marker to outline each letter. Use the whint paint marker to add the shamrock which is just 3 hearts placed together with a little stem at the bottom. Let everything dry.
Note – We recommend and use BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers available for purchase from Amazon.
St. Patrick’s Day LUCKY shell was easy too! I had a 4-leave clover charm sitting in my scrap box. You can pick up packs of charms at your local craft store or from Amazon. I used Gorilla Glue to adhere it to the seashell. Don’t use hot glue! That glue doesn’t give you a permenant hold and things will fall off. Please use Gorilla Glue or E6000 Adhesive when adhering items onto seashells or rocks. I used the white paint marker to write the word LUCKY. I then used a green paint marker to outline each letter. Let dry.
Once all of the paint is dry you want to seal-in the design by brushing 1-2 light coats of Clear Mod Podge Sealer over the top. It goes on white but will dry crystal clear. Let them dry overnight before handling them.
These hand painted St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock design seashells are the perfect little home decor accent, party favors or if you’re painting Kindness Rocks and Kindness Seashells. Easy to make and super cute!
