A Real Man Still Opens Doors, Pushes Shopping Carts and Carries Bags

February 20, 2025 by Sam H.

I’m an old-school, old-fashioned man who believes he should treat his woman like a queen. Growing up in a household with 4 girls and 6 boys, my Italian mother made sure us boys learned how to treat women right. Taught how to talk to them with respect, be open with our feelings and step-up to help a woman when needed without complaining.

Often times I take my wife out shopping and go along with her when running errands. The majority of the time when we’re out…I see men just walking along doing nothing. I see the woman getting her own door, pushing the shopping cart, struggling to get things off a shelf, carrying the bags and loading up the car while the guy just stands there. What? I’m seeing it everywhere.

Ladies…there are good men out there who believe in treating you right, doing their equal part in the relationship, helping out with the kids, cleaning the house, cooking a meal when necessary and all kinds of things. As a man…I hate seeing women settling for less. I’m grateful that my mother taught me and my brothers how to treat a woman right. We’re all in long-term 30+ year marriages and have great women beside us.

My wife and I were discussing this while out shopping a few days ago. She insisted on taking a photograph of me carrying the bags. I have no problem with having my picture taking by my lovely wife.

Moms, Grandmoms, Aunts and Sisters…women in general….please take the time to talk to the males in your life. This starts at a young age. Teach them how to treat a woman with respect. How to talk openly about their feelings with a female that they care about and how it’s important for them to step-up in the relationship to see it succeed. Okay, getting off my soapbox now.
