You’ll need a few basic supplies to make these Valentine’s Day kindness rocks:
Smooth River Stones
Pencil and Eraser
Acrylic Paint Markers
White Spray Paint
Paint Brush
Mod Podge Clear Sealer with Glossy Finish
Sheets of Newspaper
Wash and thoroughly dry all river stones. You want to use smooth stones in a variety of different shapes. You don’t want them to be large, sharp or heavy.
Lay down a few sheets of newspaper outside. Place the stones on top. They need to be sprayed with 1-2 light coats of white spray paint. Make sure you get all of the sides. Let the paint dry. You don’t want to skip this step unless your using white river stones. Why? Dark stones will produce dull-looking paint colors underneath your painted design. By base coating them to white…those colors will really pop!!!
Use a pencil to draw your desired design onto the river stone. Use acrylic paint markers to draw and color-in the design. I like using BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers that I purchase from Amazon. They have dual-ended tips (a fine and medium tip), don’t clog or leak, no foul paint odors and they dry super-quickly! I highly recommend them. However, you can use any acrylic paint markers that you have on hand. Let dry.
Dip a paint brush into Mod Podge Clear Sealer. Brush a light coat of sealer over the entire surface of the river rock. This will seal the painted finish to help protect it from chipping, cracking or the colors from fading. Let dry for 2-3 hours. The sealer goes on white but dries clear.
