Everything You Need to Know About the RV Lifestyle

January 21, 2025 by Sam H.

Everything You Need to Know About the RV LifestyleDeciding to live and travel in an RV and adopting the full-time RV lifestyle can be quite exciting. However, before you make the decision to transition to this lifestyle, there are things you must know about the RV lifestyle. Living in an RV can be very different from living in a traditional house. Since people choose to live in an RV to be able to travel often, there are certain things you must know and be prepared for. Keeping this in mind, if you’re a beginner, here are certain aspects of RV living that you must know and familiarize yourself with.

RV Living Costs

When you decide to live in an RV, you must know what the cost of living will look like. While giving a definite number can be difficult since the living costs highly depend on how people choose to live, there are certain costs you will incur. You will be investing in an RV that is adequate in size and type for you and your family. The second definite cost is parking fees. This depends on the location you choose and the amenities that the RV park offers. Some additional costs you will have to factor into living in an RV are utilities such as water, electricity, sewage, fuel, etc. Additionally, you will be paying for the maintenance and upkeep of the RV and investing in insurance for your RV.

Types of RV Resorts Locations

There are three common types of RV locations that you can choose from — RV campgrounds, RV parks, and RV resorts. The most basic and simple RV location is RV campgrounds. Campgrounds are the most natural setting, and there are several free of cost campgrounds for RVs. You will find basic amenities in a campground, such as water, dump stations, and sewers. They allow people to be closer to hiking trails, making it the ideal spot for those seeking adventures. The second type is RV parks, which have better amenities and are designed to be more sophisticated than campgrounds. You will have access to paved roads, have the privacy you need, and extra amenities such as pools, showers, and laundry facilities.

However, if you’re looking for a more elegant RV location, you might want to find an RV resort near you. RV resorts have premium amenities and are designed to be luxurious. An RV resort offers you access to courts for basketball, tennis, badminton, Wi-Fi, clubhouses, and enough space to organize social gatherings. RV resorts pack both convenience and comfort and can be a nice getaway for you and your family from your RV community.

Getting the Right Health Insurance

Full-time RV living can put you in a tough spot when you think of health insurance. Since most people who live in an RV keep moving from one place to another, looking at nationwide health insurance plans would be ideal. While you will get a health insurance in the state you’re a resident of, your nationwide health insurance will allow you to consult healthcare professionals anywhere.

Internet Connection

If you’re working from home and traveling a lot in your RV, you have to look at an internet connection that is not only stable but also allows you to travel effortlessly. Most people use their phone’s data plan for hotspot. This is the most convenient way to work or stay connected with family. However, this may be an option only if you’re not a heavy consumer of the internet. If you need a more stable and strong connection, you can consider satellite internet. Besides being suitable for heavy consumers, it is also a better option if you plan on traveling to remote places that may not have cell towers. Additionally, most RV parks and resorts have free Wi-Fi as an added amenity, which allows you to work. Another alternative is to use public Wi-Fi in places like cafes and libraries.

You Need A Route Plan

As a beginner RV traveler, it is important that you know how to plan your travel to ensure you enjoy moving around while also being able to prioritize other aspects of life. This will require some travel plan. Besides work, you should also plan your travel based on the weather conditions of the place you’re traveling to. That way, you can avoid any unpleasant surprises.

Now that you know what an RV lifestyle can look like and what aspects you might want to prioritize, you can make the decision to live in an RV with more preparedness. As an extra tip, it is recommended that you first test an RV by renting one for a short span of time and seeing how you feel about it. That way, you can experience the pros and cons of living in an RV as opposed to a traditional house and make an informed decision. Living in an RV and traveling all the time can take a while to get used to. However, once you ease into it, you will look forward to each day and have the freedom to plan your travel at your own convenience.
