My family loves ham but we typically only make it during the holidays. You know…Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. When it comes to ham I buy the spiral cut, fully-cooked ham at my local grocery store. We’re big fans of the Smithfield Hams.

To go along with the ham I like to make a homemade ham gravy. I use the drippings from the pan to make it. It’s easy-to-make and you only need a few basic ingredients to make it.
As an added bonus…did you know that leftover gravy freezes well? Well it does! Just let it cool. Place into a small freezer safe container leaving a 1″ headspace. Place the lid on and freeze it for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave on on the stove-top.
How to Make Ham Gravy
2 Tbsp. Unsalted Butter
2 Tbsp. All-Purpose Flour
2 Cups Ham Drippings
1/4 Cup Half & Half
Dash of Salt
Dash of Ground Black Pepper
Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Add-in the All-Purpose Flour and whisk together. Cook over medium to medium-high heat, whisking constantly until it thickens up. It will take 2-3 minutes. If you want to avoid lumps…make sure you’re using a whisk and not a spoon!!!
Pour in the ham drippings, continuing to whisk the ingredients together and then pour in the Half & Half. Add the dash of salt and ground black pepper. Whisk again. Reduce the heat to low and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes. You’ll need to stir it often to prevent scorching, so make sure you turn the heat down. Once done, serve immediately. I like to pour it into a nice gravy boat before placing it onto the dinner table.
