Hand Painted Melting Snowman Clam Shell Seashell Designs

December 9, 2024 by Shelly

Hand Painted Melting Snowman Clam Shell Seashell DesignsThese melting snowman designed seashells are super cute. They can be displayed in your home for the entire winter season. There’s nothing on them that screams Christmas. All were hand painted on small to medium sized clam shells that were collected from the beach. You don’t need to be a professional artist to make them because the designs are easy to replicate.

Wash all seashells in warm, soapy water with Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Dawn is the BEST for removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water. Air dry for 1-3 days. The seashells need to be completely dry before painting on them.

Designs can be painted on the inside or the outside of the shell. Totally your choice and we show it both ways. We used a combination of acrylic craft paint with a brush and acrylic paint markers with dual tips. Acrylic paint markers are different than kid’s markers, Sharpies, etc. Make sure you’re using the correct product. We recommend the BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers from Amazon.

Base coat each shell with 1-2 coats of acrylic craft paint using a brush in your desired color. You need to allow 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Once dry….we used Acrylic Paint Markers to do all of the design work. Use the medium-tip side for the larger areas and the fine-tip side for outlining, facial features and wordage. No patterns were used! Just free-hand the design.

Once the paint was dry I decided to seal them with 2 coats of Clear Mod Podge Sealer in a glossy finish. I applied it using a foam brush. This protects the painted surface. The white snowman face (bottom right corner) I sprinkled white glitter onto the Mod Podge before it was dry to add texture. Looks like “snow sprinkles” which I really like!!! Let them completely dry. That’s it, you’re done.
