Hand Painted Christmas Gnomes Clam Shells Seashell Designs

December 18, 2024 by Jenelle

We’re less than a month away from the Christmas holiday. If you haven’t started your holiday crafting…it’s time to get busy! Last week I painted these cute Gnome design seashells. The red, white and green Gnome designs will be used as place settings on our holiday table. Each guest has their name written on the back of the seashell along with the date. The hot pink and blue Gnome seashell is one I made for the winter season. I did the hot in blue colors for winter. I did the naughty saying as it reminds me of being naughty or nice during the holiday season.

If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 150+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!

For this arts and craft project I used large 4″ wide clam shells that I collected from the beach. Wash them in warm, soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. It does a great job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water. Lay them out in a single layer to dry overnight.

Base coat each clam shell with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint. You’ll need to allow 35-45 minutes of drying time between coats. Use a pencil to lightly sketch the gnome design onto the shell. No pattern or template was used. Start with the hat first and then add the beard. You can make him a thin or chubby gnome by varying the “width” of your sketch.

To keep things simple…I used BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers to color it in. These aren’t kiddie markers! They contain acrylic paint. No priming, no drippy messes, no foul paint odors and they dry super fast. Each paint marker features a medium tip and a fine tip. I purchase them from Amazon.

After you’re done with the design work let the entire shell dry for 1-2 hours.

Seal the paint by brushing on 1-2 light coats of Clear Mod Podge Sealer. I used one with a Glossy Finish. Let dry until it’s no longer tacky. It will dry clear.
