Mild and Sweet Homemade Beef Chili Recipe

November 26, 2024 by Sam H.

Mild and Sweet Homemade Beef Chili RecipeNot a fan of spicy and hot chili? If so, I think you’ll like our version of mild beef chili with a tad of sweetness added to it. You can make it on the stove-top in a large pot or toss all of the ingredients into a slow cooker. This chili is delicious and one that I can get my entire family to eat…including the kids!

You can serve it in a bowl all on it’s own or serve it served over rice, pasta or a baked potato for a more satsifying meal. This chili freezes well. Let it cool and then freeze in a freezer safe container for up to 6 months. Thaw in the refrigerator and reheat in the microwave. I will often double-up the ingredients, so that I can freeze a meal for later use.

Mild and Sweet Homemade Beef Chili Recipe

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 onion, finely chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (15 ounce) cans light or dark red kidney beans
1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1 ½ cups water, or as needed (Optional)
1 tsp. ground chili powder
1 tsp. dried basil flakes
2-3 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Brown the lean ground beef with the onion in a large frying pan. Once done, drain off grease. Place seasoned cooked beef into the slow cooker. Add in the rest of the above ingredients, stirring after each addition. Cover. Simmer on the low setting for 5-6 hours or on the high setting for 2-3 hours. Once done…turn the temperature to the warm setting until you’re ready to eat.
