How to Secure Hanging Flower Baskets and Wind Chimes by Using Zip Ties

Secure Hanging Flower Baskets and Wind Chimes by Using Zip TiesMy wife has several hanging flower baskets hanging up outside on our front porch and on the back deck. Along with the flower baskets she has 2 wind chimes and a little bird feeder…all hanging via a plant hook or large cup hook from the ceiling. We live in an area that gets windy weather along with thunderstorms. Many times her beautiful items would end up damaged or completely missing from the storms. Until now.

A few months ago I got smart. I purchased 2 packs of plastic Zip Ties from Amazon. I use the zip ties to secure the hanging flower baskets, wind chimes, wind spinners and other items that she has hanging up. It’s so easy to loop those zip ties around the item and the hanging hook. Pull the zip tie tight and you’re done! For 4 months her items stayed put with no damage from the weather!

I recommend using the plastic ones because once the season is over and you want to change your items out…you can easily use a pair of scissors to remove it…so that you can take your items down. You’ll want to give them a good cleaning before storing them away. Then repeat the “hanging process” with the new seasonal items that you’re putting up. Easy and a cost-effective way to keep your items from disappearing or getting damaged.

They come in all kinds of different colors. Select a color that blends in with your woodwork so that it’s less noticeable. In the picture above I used a black one (instead of a white one) just so that you could easily see it. Another great feature about using them is they’re weather-proof and will hold up for several months or years…depending on your location.
