Halloween Ghost, Spider and Sugar Skull Painted Seashells

October 5, 2024 by Classystaff

Halloween Ghost, Spider and Sugar Skull Painted SeashellsThese hand-painted Halloween themed seashells are the perfect little accents for your next Halloween party. Use them as party favors, in a tablescape or just as little home decor accents. These designs are easy to replicate, no artistic skills are needed. A great project for older children, adults and/or seniors.

You’ll need 3″ to 4 1/2″ wide clam shells collected from the beach. Wash them in warm soapy water using Dawn Liquid Dish Soap. Why Dawn? It does the best job at removing sand, debris and fishy odors. Rinse with clean water and air dry overnight.

Base coat each seashell in your desired color using acrylic craft paint and a paint brush. We applied 2 coats of paint with 35-45 minutes of drying time between coats. Our base coat colors: white, black and lime green.

To keep all of the design work easy we elected to use BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers. They have dual ended tips, a medium tip and a fine tip. Use the medium tip for coloring in specific areas. Use the fine time for outlining, adding facial features and for writing wordage.

We used no pattern or template. Lightly use a pencil to sketch on your design. It doesn’t have to be perfect! You can refer to our photograph or come up with your own designs. Let all of the paint dry for 3-6 hours or overnight.

You need to seal the paint. We brushed on 2 light coats of Glossy Clear Mod Podge Sealer on the Sugar Skull and Spider allowing for 40 minutes of drying time between coats. For the Halloween Ghost we brushed on a clear glossy sealer that contained micro-fine glitter which gives it a nice sparkle. We didn’t want a scary looking ghost as these shells are for a children’s Halloween party. Let dry for 3-4 hours or until they’re no longer tacky.
