September 10, 2024 by Classystaff

Do you know the difference between an apple crisp and an apple crumble? An apple crisp incorporates oats into its topping while a crumble doesn’t. They’re identical in their base ingredients…just the topping is different! Today I’m sharing my mom’s delicious homemade Apple Crisp recipe with all of you. It’s so simple to make and tastes delicious! It has the perfect amount of sweetness and topping!

You can bake the apple crips in an 8″ by 8″ square baking dish or a 2 quart casserole dish.

Mom’s Delicious Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe

4 cups Apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 Tbsp. lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats (quick oats is fine to use)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Place the prepared sliced apples into the baking dish. Sprinkle lemon juice on top.

Melt the butter in the microwave. It will take 15-20 seconds. Pour the melted butter into a medium sized mixing bowl. Add-in the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, all-purpose flour, rolled oats and the salt. Stir until everything is combined. The mixture will be crumbly.

Spread the crumbly mixture across the top of the apples in the baking dish.

Bake in a 375 degrees F. oven for 30-35 minutes. It’s done when the apples are fork tender. Remove from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving. It can be served warm or chilled. Store all leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freezing Tips: I successfully freeze leftover apple crisp. Let it cool. Spoon into small freezer containers leaving a 1″ headspace. Place the lid on top. Lable and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
