This blackberry apple fruit crisp is easy-to-make and only requires a few basic ingredients. The fresh blackberries add just a little bit of sweetness to it but still allows the “apple taste” to shine through. The fall season is the perfect time to whip up a homemade apple crisp! Apples are in-season in the northeast and readily available at affordable prices.

You’ll need to bake it in an 8″ by 8″ square baking dish or a 2 quart glass casserole dish. Both will work fine. There’s no need to spray a glass baking dish or to grease it. The fruit makes plenty of liquid during the baking process to prevent sticking.
Blackberry Apple Crisp Recipe
3 cups Apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup fresh blackberries (rinsed with water)
1 Tbsp. lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats (quick oats is fine to use)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 cup butter, melted
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Place the prepared sliced apples and blackberries into a baking dish. Stir to combine. Sprinkle lemon juice on top.
Melt the butter in the microwave. Pour the melted butter into a medium sized mixing bowl. Add-in the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, all-purpose flour, rolled oats and the salt. Stir until everything is combined. The mixture will be crumbly. Spread the crumbly mixture across the top of the fruit in the baking dish.
Bake in a 375 degrees F. oven for 30-35 minutes. It’s done when the apples and blackberries are fork tender. Remove from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving. It can be served warm or chilled. Store all leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Freezing Tips: I successfully freeze leftover blackberry apple crisp. Let it cool. Spoon into small freezer containers leaving a 1″ headspace. Place the lid on top. Lable and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator.
