What Are the Best Places to Live in Dallas, TX

August 6, 2024 by Sam H.

What Are the Best Places to Live in Dallas, TXDallas is one of the fastest developing cities in Texas. Its growing job opportunities, warmer winters, friendly and welcoming community, and diversity attract people not only from all over the United States but also the other parts of the world. Dallas is also a preferred city for homeowners and renters alike, as the rents and mortgages are relatively affordable in comparison to other cities with the same potential for growth. If you plan on moving to Dallas, TX, you should make it a point to understand Dallas neighborhoods and suburbs. This will help you narrow down your search for the right place to live in the city based on your specific needs and preferences. With that said, here are some of the neighborhoods worth considering when moving to Dallas.

1. Lake Highlands

Located about a 20-minute drive from Dallas’ downtown, Lake Highlands is a neighborhood well-suited for families and those who like to engage in recreational activities regularly. As the name suggests, White Rock Lake borders the district, which adds to its serene appeal. It is also the ideal place for people who are into remodeling since the neighborhood has beautiful bungalows. Lake Highlands has a peaceful charm about it — thanks to its lush green streets with trees canopying them. It has several restaurants, cafes, and shops located in close proximity to the houses and bungalows. Since this area is a little elevated compared to the rest of the city, it allows its residents to pursue numerous outdoor activities.

2. Preston Highlands

Preston Highlands is yet another neighborhood best suited for families for its affordability, proximity to some of the best schools, and greenery. Other than that, its close proximity to Warren Sports Complex makes it a good place for children to develop an interest in sports and be active. It is also situated close to Freedom Meadow Park, where you can enjoy the calm and greenery in peace. Keep an eye out for good projects from reputed builders like Wan Bridge and you can invest in a house in neighborhoods like Preston Highlands that suit your lifestyle.

3. Old East Dallas

Old East Dallas, which was a city in itself before 1890, is home to some of the best places to live in Dallas. Given its history, the houses and neighborhoods have a touch of it in their architecture and well-crafted houses. Old East Dallas is for anyone who wants to live in an area that boasts a rich history, has nice restaurants and galleries, and has community events from time to time. One thing about Old East Dallas that ensures variety is that every neighborhood is different and has something distinct about it. It is also a preferred location for those who want to be in close proximity to the downtown area.

4. Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn is one of the most vibrant parts of Dallas. This specific neighborhood is populated by numerous young people. With interesting and hip bars, clubs, and restaurants located all over, the area keeps its residents entertained. However, Oak Lawn is best known for its annual Dallas Pride Parade, which makes it the most popular area among the LGBTQ+ community. For anyone looking for a lively neighborhood that bustles with life, Oak Lawn is a good choice.

5. Allen, Texas

Allen is easily one of the most diverse places in Dallas. It is a little bit of everything. Located at the very top of Dallas, Allen has the US-75 passing through the center. This makes downtown Dallas easily accessible. Allen is home to well-reputed schools, which makes it a good place for families with children. It also has several parks, natural attractions, restaurants, and an ice rink. A little trivia about Allen is that the first-ever train robbery in Texas happened in Allen. However, rest assured that train robberies are a thing of the past and do not happen anymore in Allen.

6. Celina, Texas

Celina is a little more cut off from the city than other neighborhoods on this list. However, don’t let that fact fool you. Celina is one of the fastest-growing suburbs that houses some of the best schools. It also has world-class healthcare facilities. These are reasons enough for people to move to this part of the city. While the commute to downtown Dallas may be a bit longer, it is worth considering if you’re looking to settle in a suburb that has cooler temperatures than the center of the city.

Finding the best neighborhood in Dallas is a cakewalk, considering how the city has developed and welcomes people with varying preferences, different lifestyles, and diverse cultural backgrounds. It is recommended that you shortlist the areas of your choice and plan a visit to these places before zeroing in on which neighborhood to move to in Dallas, Texas. This will give you a more realistic understanding of each location and help you make a well-informed decision based on your actual understanding.
