Last month my daughter threw an ice cream party at her home. She had 6 different flavors of ice cream available, a dozen toppings, waffle cones, sugar cones, whipped cream and various fresh fruits. Guests could make their own ice cream cones, sundaes, milk shakes or banana splits. Everyone had a lot of fun coming up with their own unique creations.

I made these hand painted ice cream cones from 4″ wide clam shells that I collected from the beach. You want to wash them in warm soapy water with Dawn Liquid Dish Soap, rinse with clean water and air dry. I recommend using Dawn because it’s the best at removing fine sand particles, debris and fishy odors.
Cone: I mixed 2 colors of acrylic paint together… a metallic gold and a light tan. I love the “metallic” finish and the unique color. I used 2 coats to make the cone. Once that is dry…I used a white fine-tip Acrylic Paint Marker to make the criss-cross pattern. Highly recommend the BETEM Acrylic Paint Markers that I purchase from Amazon.
You can make the ice cream any color that you would like. I used light pink, brown, hot pink, vanilla, etc. You’ll need 2 coats of paint to get good coverage across the top of the seashell. Let dry.
To add the multi-colored sprinkles I used the fine-tip on Acrylic Paint Markers. Just make a thin-slash-line to represent sprinkles in a variety of colors. You can add a faux cherry on the top too! Let all of the paint dry.
You need to seal-in the paint to protect it from chipping, colors from fading, etc. by brushing on 1-2 light coats of Clear Glossy Mod Podge Sealer. I like to use a foam brush when applying it. Let dry for 3-5 hours. It will dry crystal clear.
