Looking for an inexpensive arts and crafts project to do this weekend? If so, we got an easy one for you today! You’ll need to recycle a few glass jars to make this project. You can use all kinds of different glass condiment jars that you normally toss out. Wash them in warm, soapy water, rinse clean. You need to remove the labels and adhesive glue. We recommend using Goo Gone which gets that task done within seconds. Rinse with clean water and towel dry.

For this project we recommend using paints that are made for glass. You can find them at your local arts & crafts store or purchase them from Amazon in a kit. We purchased a kit that included numerous paint tubes with different colors, several paint brushes and a palette. We recommend the Acrylic Glass Paint Kit from Amazon. No heating required and the paints we purchased are waterproof. Highly recommend them!
You’ll need a water dish, paper towels and a sheet of plastic bubble wrap. If you want to protect your clothing wear a craft or painting apron…or an old T-shirt.
After cleaning and drying the glass jars it’s time to paint them! Lay the glass jars out onto a sheet of bubble wrap. This will protect your table-top from paint messes plus acts as a non-stick surface underneath your item. You can paint any design that you would like.
You can get as creative as you would like by painting designs or just do simple painting like stripes, polka dots, hearts, etc. If you’re working with older kids…keep it simple! Once done with the artwork you need to let them dry overnight. Let the paint “cure” according to package instructions.
We don’t use real candles in our household. We use Flameless Votive Candles and Flameless Tealight Candles that run on batteries. They’re safer to use and cost effective. You can purchase them at a many different retail stores including from Amazon.
These hand painted Glass Candle Holders make a great gift! Think Mother’s Day, Birthdays, Christmas, etc. When presenting them as a gift…make sure you slip a candle down inside the glass holder. Then place into a little gift bag and you’re done!
