Easy Homemade Chocolate Sauce for Ice Cream

August 8, 2024 by Classystaff

During the summertime we make a lot of homemade ice cream thanks to our ice cream making machine. We are particularly fond of vanilla bean, strawberry, mango and blueberry ice cream flavors. To go along with our ice cream I like to whip up a batch of homemade chocolate sauce. It’s 100% better than the stuff you find in your local grocery store.

When making this recipe I recommend that you use pure vanilla extract to get the best flavor. I don’t use nor recommend immitation vanilla. If you have leftover chocolate sauce you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. For serving, I like to pour it into a ceramic gravy boat. Then the family can pour the chocolate sauce on their ice cream without making a drippy mess.

Easy Homemade Chocolate Sauce for Ice Cream Recipe

1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup cocoa powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

In a large saucepan over low heat…combine together the water, granulated sugar, cocoa powder and salt using a wire whisk. You want to whisk the mixture almost constantly until it begins to thicken. It doesn’t take long…maybe 4-5 minutes.

Once it has thickened turn off the heat and remove from the burner. Stir in the pure vanilla extract. Let sit for 1-2 minutes before serving. You want to serve it warm but not overly hot as you don’t want it to melt the ice cream.
