My wife and I hang out a lot on the beach. We like to take beach walks while collecting seashells. She uses the collected shells in various home decor projects, craft projects and for outdoor yard art. She’ll collect hundreds of seashells every year! One thing that we’ve learned is that you need proper shell collecting bags. Don’t take plastic grogery bags over to the beach! Also, we don’t recommend using thin mesh bags that are marketed towards children who are playing on the beach. You need something more heavy-duty if you’re going to be collecting a lot of shells!

Here’s a few of our top recommendations of what to use if you want to collect a lot of seashells from the beach.
MESH LAUNDRY BAGS – They’re bigger, easier-to-use and made to last longer! As a bonus, after you take all of the shells out…you can launder the bags for the next time!
MESH PRODUCE BAGS – We like the bags that are made out of cotton with carrying handles. Make sure the openings are small enough that your shells aren’t falling out of it as your walking.
When it comes to laundering them…make sure you have everything out of them with no small shells left behind. Shake all of the sand out too. Place them into your washing machine (low level water) with liquid laundry detergent. Use the delicate cycyle setting to launder them. Once done…hang them up to air dry. Don’t place them in the dryer.
If you’re on vacation and need to transport the collected shells back home…I recommend pouring them into a plastic storage container or cardboard box. Don’t let them sit in the bags. Rinse them with a garden hose (first), let them air dry outside overnight and then pack them up for the ride home.
