Summertime Fun in the Backyard Swimming Pool

July 31, 2024 by Shelly

Five years ago we made the decision to get a swimming pool in our backyard. At the time…we wanted an in-ground pool but that wasn’t possible with our septic system and well water. After learning that, we opted to go with an above ground pool and love it! It’s so easy to maintain.

Summertime Fun in the Backyard Swimming Pool

Our swimming pool is open from May 1st through October 1st every year. We live in the northeast and have a solar heater attached to our pool. It keeps our pool heated so that we can enjoy it for a longer period of time without the need for electricity. If you have an above-ground pool…I highly recommend a solar heater. It will extend your swimming season by 6-8 weeks.

Throughout the summertime the family likes to come over for backyard barbecues and pool parties. Our grandchildren like to come over every weekend for a swim. The pool has given our entire family some much needed physical exercise and important family bonding time. It’s one of the best investments that we’ve ever made.

I recommend that all families who have a pool to go over regularly with the family the safety rules, especially with the kids. In addition, install some safety features too! We have a locking ladder that the kids can’t unlock or get into the pool unless an adult unlocks it for them. We ONLY buy high-quality floaters and rafts. We don’t waste money on ones that delate easily. Furthermore, any child who can’t touch the bottom in our pool must wear a life jacket. No exceptions!  There are many things you can do to keep your family safe.
