This homemade chocolate frosting recipe is easy-to-make and only requires a few basic ingredients that you most likely have on hand. The frosting can be used to top cupcakes, brownies or a delicious homemade cake. Personally though, we love it spread ontop of chocolate cupcakes!
Easy Homemade Chocolate Frosting Recipe
1 large egg
1 cup granulated sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
In a large saucepan over medium heat combine all of the above ingredients. You will want to stir it constantly to keep it from scorching. I recommend using a non-stick silicone spatula for the stirring process. Once it begins to boil, boil for exactly one minute. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes before using it.
Note: Cupcakes, brownies, cakes, etc. need to be completely cooled to room temperature before spreading frosting on top…otherwise it can cause the frosting to melt. Store frosted cupcakes in an airtight container.
