Visiting the Dunkirk Lighthouse in New York

Dunkirk Lighthouse in New YorkIn April we took a 4 day road trip from Hershey Pennsylvania up to Dunkirk New York to see the full Solar Eclipse on the banks of Lake Erie. The car ride took approximately 6 hours to make. Since we were attending the Solar Eclipse festival we spent 2 nights in Dunkirk. It’s a small city in western New York that sits along Lake Erie. An old city that is rich in history.

One afternoon we went up to tour the Dunkirk Lighthouse. There’s free on-site parking, restrooms and you can walk the grounds for FREE. It’s a family-friendly attraction. We spent about 90 minutes or so while there walking the grounds and checking out all of the displays they had on the property. Of course…the main attraction is the Dunkirk Lighthouse.

Lake Erie in Dunkirk New York

If you want to check out the lighthouses along Lake Erie this is one you’ll want to see. It’s not done in the tall connical tower style that you see along the seaboard…it’s smaller in stature and is attached to the light keepers house. You can see it in my photographs. Beautiful and one of the nicest that we’ve seen along Lake Erie.
