Grandma’s Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe

June 4, 2024 by Classystaff

Grandma's Homemade Apple Crisp RecipeApple crisp is an easy-to-make dessert that you can enjoy all year long. One of the things I like about this recipe is that it utilizes basic ingredients, prep work is fast and you can make it with a variety of different apples. Whatever you have on hand or prefer. Another added bonus is that once it has cooled…you can easily freeze some for later use. Just place into a freezer safe container and freeze for up to 6 months.

Grandma’s Homemade Apple Crisp Recipe

6 large apples, peeled, cored and diced
1 1/2 tbs. granulated surgar
1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. fresh or bottled lemon juice
3/4 cup light brown sugar
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats (oatmeal)
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter or margarine, cut into cubes
1/8 tsp. salt
non-stick baking spray

Spray a 8″ by 8″ baking dish with non-stick baking spray. Set aside.

Place the prepared apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon and lemon juice in a mixing bowl. Use a large spoon to toss the ingredients together. Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared baking pan.

Using the now empty mixing bowl…combine together the light brown sugar, old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, butter and salt in the bowl. Use a spoon to combine the ingredients together. The mixture should be moist but crumbly. Spread the mixture over-the-top of the apple mixture in the baking pan.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Place the baking dish into a preheated oven and bake for 20-27 minutes. The baking time will vary slightly depending on the thickness of the apples. It’s done when they’re fork-tender and the topping turns a light golden brown. Remove from the oven.

You can serve this delicious apple crisp warm, with cold milk poured over-the-top or with a spoonful of frozen whipped topping on the top.
