Tropical Pineapple Painted and Decoupage Clam Seashells

I’m getting ready for summer and everything that comes along with the new season. Backyard pool parties, barbecues, beach walks, hiking, camping, gardening, etc. It’s my favorite season out of the year. Last week I made these cute tropical pineapple themed painted and decoupage clam shells seashells. I’m going to put them outside on a table near our pool area.

These cute seashells are an easy-to-make craft project. The Chiquita portion of the shell was made from the paper label off of fresh pineapples that I purchased at the grocery store. Just snip them off with scissors carefully. They’re not stickers but paper tags that were hanging on each one.

To get started you want to wash and dry your clam shells. I used ones that measure at least 4″ wide. Washed in Dawn Liquid Dish Soap (soaked in the soapy water for 15 minutes) and then rinsed with clean water. Left to dry overnight.

Base coat each one with 2 coats of either white acrylic craft paint or pineapple yellow/orange craft paint. You’ll need to allow 30 minutes of drying time between coats. Now comes the fun the part…decorating them!

I used 2 paper tags from fresh pineapples purchased at the grocery store (see above) as the center decoration. From the Dollar Tree Store I purchased a pack of pineapple themed rub-on decals. I used Mod Pod Decoupage in a Glossy Finish to attach the paper tags onto the shells. Left it thoroughly dry. I then rubbed-on the decals that I purchased from Dollar Tree. If you want to add wording like “You’re Sweet” use an Acrylic Paint Marker (not a regular marker). Let everything dry.

To finish up you want to give the entire seashell aka clam shell a coat of Mod Podge Sealer on the front and back of the shell. This helps to protect the decorations and helps to protect the seashell while being displayed outdoors. Let dry for 24 hours before placing it outside to allow everything to set and cure.
